Welcome to Davidson Mahon Solicitors

We are a niche private client firm based in Warwickshire. Our specialisms include all aspects of estate planning including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax planning, wealth preservation, succession planning for farmers and business owners and Trusts. We also advise on Probate and the administration of estates, obtaining Grants of Representation and Court of Protection matters. We also advise on family matters including divorce, finances, children, pre and post nuptial agreements including advocacy at Court if required.

At Davidson Mahon Solicitors, we treat our clients with warmth and empathy. We understand that seeing a solicitor can be daunting, especially when discussing matters such as Wills, the death of a loved one or succession planning for your business. You can be assured that you will be treated in a professional and attentive manner.

Flexibility is key for Davidson Mahon Solicitors and we work to fit in with you. We appreciate most people work during the day and only have evenings or weekends free and we can accommodate this by seeing you at times when it is convenient for you. If you would prefer an appointment outside normal working hours, please just ask.

We look after clients who are based in Warwickshire, West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and sometimes further afield.

We are a small firm that offers exceptional client service and we look forward to looking after you for many years to come.

Davidson Mahon Solicitors was set up by Kate Mahon. Kate was originally called to the Bar in 2006 and cross-qualified as a solicitor in 2009. Kate specialises in all aspects of private client work which includes preparing Wills, drawing up Trusts, administering estates, obtaining Grants of Probate, preparing Powers of Attorney, making applications to the Court of Protection and advising farmers and business owners on Inheritance Tax and succession planning. Kate is an Affiliate member of STEP and a member of the Law Society Private Client Section Advisory Committee.

Kate works with Accountants and Financial Advisers to ensure clients obtain practical advice so they can plan their future with confidence.

For Kate, exceptional client service is everything. Kate believes that it is extremely important in this area of law to understand your client’s needs and background in order to provide appropriate and practical advice and this means spending time with clients to ensure she has a clear understanding of their situation.

Kate wanted to create a firm that enabled her to offer her clients something more than most other firms; more time, flexibility for clients to see her at times to suit them, quality work and affordable fees.

Kate is happy to see clients at home, at work or a place which is convenient for her clients and at times to suit her clients too. Whilst most solicitor’s offices are open 9am to 5pm, this does not suit many clients who have full-time and demanding jobs. Kate fully appreciates this and is more than happy to see clients outside normal working hours and at weekends.

Kate strives to create long-lasting professional relationships with her clients and their families and also her referrers and looks forward to welcoming you to the firm where you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.

It’s not all work and no play…
When Kate isn’t working, she loves walking her German Shepherds. Kate is also a keen runner and achieved her life-long dream to complete the London Marathon in 2017 for the Mayday Trust raising over £2,000 and she is hoping to complete the London Marathon again in 2020.

If you pop round to see Kate and she isn’t working at her desk, you can often find her tending her chickens or walking her German Shepherd, Pasha. Kate loves the outdoors and would move her desk outside if she could! You may leave with a bit more than legal advice the next time you see her as she often has fresh eggs from her chickens (and there may be some bacon in the near future too)!

Caroline joined her good friend Kate at Davidson Mahon as a consultant solicitor in December 2016. Previously she has been a partner in ‘big’ law firms but now wants to concentrate on providing a more bespoke and flexible service to her clients in a friendly, approachable, and affordable manner.  Home visits, out of hours’ appointments and availability means Caroline can deliver quality advice to fit in with clients’ lives and for prices which offer excellent value for money.  Caroline can see clients in their own homes, at the Davidson Mahon offices in Rugby or at Caroline’s home based office in Meriden.

Specialising in ‘Private Client Law’, Caroline advises individuals, families, businesses, farmers, and vulnerable adults on all aspects of their estate planning, asset preservation and succession.  She deals with Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts (including co-ownership of property), Administration of Vulnerable Adult’s Affairs, Administration of Deceased’s Estates, Inheritance Tax Planning, Gifting, Asset Protection, and Court of Protection Applications / Procedures.

Caroline acknowledges how difficult it is for clients to evaluate and compare the myriad of providers, particularly for will writing (which is still an unregulated area of law).  With recognised external accreditations, clients can be assured of the quality and integrity of the advice. Because of this, Caroline has worked hard to become a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Solicitors for the Elderly and the Private Client Section of the Law Society.  Caroline was one of the first solicitors in the Midlands region to obtain the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners’ Advanced Certificate in Will Writing qualification in 2011.

Caroline is acutely aware how diverse clients’ circumstances are.  Every family, business or farm has its own dynamics and she can tailor her advice, both legal and practical.  Solutions are suggested and explained in a straight forward manner.

As a volunteer ‘Dementia Champion’ for the Alzheimer’s Society, Caroline regularly holds ‘Dementia Awareness’ presentations for local groups, businesses, and communities.  The sessions are part of the Alzheimer’s social action movement to promote awareness and to promote understanding of how ‘it can be possible to live well with dementia’.  Many of Caroline’s clients live and have lived with Dementia so she was naturally interested in understanding more about the condition.  This interest was heightened greatly when this disease affected members of her own family.

Caroline lives with her mum, husband and daughter in Meriden where she grew up.  She likes nothing more than wrapping up warm and trudging through the muddy fields on a cold day with her 3 dogs, perhaps with a stop at the local pub on the way. An avid baker, if you visit Caroline at her home office, you may get a piece of freshly baked cake with your cuppa!  Caroline also plays golf and is now hoping to have more opportunity to play and significantly reduce her handicap!

Davidson Mahon are delighted to welcome Alison Rolf to the team, expanding the firm’s specialisms to family law advice as well as bespoke estate planning.

Alison has known Kate and Caroline for many years and joined the firm as a Consultant in May 2018 having previously worked for a high street firm locally.  Alison has worked in Birmingham, Coventry and Stratford upon Avon in a career spanning over 25 years! Since 1997, Alison has specialised in family law and is well aware of how stressful matrimonial matters can be for the clients involved in them.  Her experience of these matters mean that she is able to empathise whilst still advising clients with practical ways to move forward.  Always putting the children first and trying to resolve matters with as little acrimony as possible is always the best way to proceed as far as she is concerned.

Alison deals with a range of family matters including divorce, finances, children, pre and post nuptial agreements including advocacy at Court if required.  Alison can see you at the Stoneleigh offices or at a location to suit you and at times which fit around the lifestyles people have so that advice is available under most circumstances, including evenings and weekends.

Alison is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and has been since October 2000. She is a member of Resolution which advocates trying to keep matters amicable and keep acrimony to a minimum. Alison is also a local Councillor.

Alison is passionate about helping you find the way through the emotions and worries of family law and has many years of satisfied clients to confirm this.

Anji joined Davidson Mahon in January 2019 having known and worked with Kate at a previous firm and jumped at the chance to work with her again.  Anji’s career in Wills Trusts and Probate has spanned the last twenty-eight years, with the last eighteen of them having been spent at a large Midlands-based law firm gaining a wealth of experience in the area of private client work which includes preparing Wills, Powers of Attorney, obtaining Grants of Representation and administering estates.  Anji also has experience in Court of Protection work having previously been appointed as a Panel Deputy.

Anji understands that at certain stages of their lives, people are placed in very emotional and vulnerable situations with a need to reach out for help from a friendly face and from someone with the time to listen, help and advise.  Along with the Davidson Mahon ethos Anji is happy to give her time to listen and advise and meet with potential clients at a time and place which is convenient to them which could be at the Stoneleigh office, Rugby office or in their own homes.

Out of work, one of Anji’s love is dogs, particularly German Shepherds, so loves sharing her time with the office dogs Pasha and Tess, both of whom look after everyone and keeps them all under control.  Other than dogs, Anji loves music, being particularly proud of her baby grand piano which she is currently learning to play, and travelling, being constantly on the look out for the next location to explore.

After working for a large law firm for the last 17 years, Andrea joined her good friend Caroline in December 2018 as her personal assistant. Andrea has extensive experience in Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Probate matters. She strongly believes in providing a bespoke service for clients with a personal touch and is able to do this now she is working with Caroline. As far as Andrea is concerned, clients come first and she enjoys being able to provide this level of service.  Andrea is married with two grown up sons and in her spare time enjoys travel, running and attending her son’s boxercise class!

Hello, my name is Pasha and I am the office dog. I look after everyone and keep them company when they are in the office. I am very lucky as I get lots of attention and I’m taken for nice walks at lunchtime too. I like nothing more than chasing a ball or fetching a stick but my absolute favourite thing is swimming! When I am not in the office, I live with Kate and her husband and their menagerie of other animals.

Hello, my name is Tess and I became a member of Kate’s family just before Christmas 2017 and I now come to work with her and Pasha. I absolutely love the walks we go on at Stoneleigh Park and I also really enjoy a swim in the pond (when Kate lets me!). I get lots of cuddles and treats in the office and, together with Pasha, we look after everyone.

Whilst it might not be very romantic, unfortunately sometimes the best plans don’t work out and relationships fail.  Setting out before the wedding or the cohabitation, what will happen in that event is becoming more normal and means everyone knows where they stand.

We can advise you on how the process works and deal with paperwork for you or simply assist you to deal with matters yourself. Within this we can advise on how the financial matters should be considered and help you to either come to an agreement or assist you through the process to obtain an order from the Court dividing the assets and liabilities.

Unfortunately, children often find themselves in the middle of the parent issues and they need to be considered throughout.  We can assist with arrangements for the children, looking at what would be in the best interests of the children and ensuring they maintain a relationship with both parents despite the problems between those parents.

We can see you in your home, office or at a place convenient to you to discuss your requirements.

We will charge a fixed fee for this, which depends on whether the estate is taxable for Inheritance Tax (“IHT”) or not and whether a claim is required for the Transferable Nil Rate Band and/or the Residence Nil Rate Band.
